Zoning Commission Meeting
June 23, 2010
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Paul Patterson at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room. Present were Chairperson Paul Patterson, Paul Shaw, Jordan Davenport, Zoning Inspector Pat Cerny, and alternate Keith Fisher. Also in attendance were Philip Whitt, James Dole, and Matt Montowski.
The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for our troops. Paul Patterson introduced the Board members and gave a brief overview of meeting proceedings.
Case #543549 - Owners James and Susan Dole of 5096 E. Sloan Street, Port Clinton.
The request is to rezone the entire property to C-3. Rezone .323 acres which is R-2 on Converse Street to C-3 the same as on either side of the parcel. The adjoining property owners to the north are Michael and Tomi Johnson, to the south is a vacated alley, to the west is Philip Whitt, and to the east is the additional Dole property.
Paul Patterson read a letter from Todd Bickley, Director Ottawa County Regional Planning, which stated the Commission voted to recommend approval of the rezoning request based on the existing land uses and the surrounding zoning.
James Dole said he spoke to people at the Ottawa County Courthouse and no one can tell him why a vacated alley is the only portion of his property that was not rezoned when everything around it was rezoned. He said they thought it must have been an oversight. Mr. Dole said he feels he would have better luck selling his property if he didn’t have to list it as commercial with a strip of residential right in the middle where the driveway is.
Paul Patterson closed the discussion to the attendees and Board members had a brief discussion.
Paul Shaw made a motion to approve application request #543549. Keith Fisher seconded the motion. Keith Fisher, yes; Paul Shaw, yes; and Jordan Davenport, yes. The motion was carried unanimously.
Paul Shaw asked for an update on the Wood’s rezoning request. Matt Montowski stated the request was approved by the township trustees by majority vote.
Paul Shaw made a motion to approve the minutes as presented from the March 24, Zoning Commission meeting. Jordan Davenport seconded the motion. The motion was carried unanimously.
