Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees
November 8, 2011
Chairman Matt Montowski called the Public Hearing to order at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in the conference room of the administration building.
In attendance were Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Gary Mortus, Karen Shaw,

Matt Montowski said the hearing is to review case #543682 a rezoning request submitted by Lois Ballard, Kim Young, and Todd Young regarding the properties at 2121 and 2157 N. East Catawba Road. He said the present zoning is “A” Low Density Residential and the applicants would like to rezone the property to the “R-4” Residential District.
Matt Montowski said the applicants propose a lot split so that each home can be situated on a separate parcel of land. He said the rezoning is required because the minimum lot width and minimum lot area of the “A” District cannot be met. Matt Montowski said the area to be rezoned contains approximately 1.125 acres of land and is situated on the east side of N. East Catawba Road.
Matt Montowski asked if the Trustees had a conflict of interest with the case. William Rofkar stated he would abstain from the vote due to a conflict of interest.
Karen Shaw read a letter from Todd Bickley, Director of the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission, wherein he stated the Commission voted to recommend approval of the rezoning request based on the Land Use Plan recommendation. In addition, several Commission members suggested the owners consider rezoning the remainder of the property to conform with the Land Use Plan.
Matt Montowski said on October 19, 2011 the Catawba Island Zoning Commission made a recommendation to the Trustees to approve the case as submitted.
David Boss said he was in attendance representing Lois Ballard and agreed with the case as it was presented.
