Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

January 24, 2012

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman William Rofkar on Tuesday, January 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Gary Mortus, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow,
John Gangway, Kathy Jo Schweitzer, Jack DeVore, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

The minutes were read from the January 10 meeting of the Board of Township Trustees.
Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the January 10 meeting minutes as presented. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $40,133.40. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township and read:

A letter from Design Memorial regarding columbarium structure options for the cemetery.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said he set up an account at Carter Lumber to use during the fire station cabinet remodeling project.

John Gangway said he has been in contact with a State Farm representative regarding reimbursement for the necessary repairs to the exterior of the fire station.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented a completed Township Request for Assistance for 2013 road repairs.

Gary Mortus made a motion to submit a Township Request for Assistance to the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office for 2013 road repairs as presented by Dan Barlow. Request is to plane down and relay three roads in the Rittenhouse Subdivision including East Weyhe Road,
Haven Lane and Meadow Lane. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow said he is going to order two more totes of the Ice Bite product for winter road maintenance.


Zoning

Matt Montowski said the Chairman for the Board of Zoning Appeals for 2012 is Bryan Baugh and the Vice Chairman is Jack DeVore. He said some zoning members have requested a refresher training class since not everyone was able to attend the training in Danbury.

The Trustees agreed it would be a good idea to request Zoning Inspector, Walter Wehenkel conduct a training session prior to a regularly scheduled zoning meeting.

Matt Montowski said an external hard drive was purchased for the Zoning office and the County Engineer’s Office has loaded the township zoning maps onto the hard drive. He said the maps can now be easily viewed on the computer.

Other Business

Kathy Jo Schweitzer gave a presentation highlighting the many services she offers with special regard to Records Retention and how those services could benefit the township.

Gary Mortus said he would like to invite Ottawa County Auditor Jodi Regal to a Township Trustee meeting to discuss Inside and Outside Millage. Karen Shaw said she would contact Jodi Regal.

The Trustees reviewed the Wellness Participation Agreement and agreed to keep the five credit model for 2012 and update our Wellness Program to a calendar year basis with the new Wellness credits to match our calendar year deductible and the 2011 credit model to be prorated.

Gary Mortus made a motion to designate Huntington National Bank as a depository for the active funds of Catawba Island Township for the period commencing January 1, 2012 and ending December 31, 2016. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to have the required Public Records training be covered by the attendance of William Rofkar and Matt Montowski representing the township elected officials at the Public Records training offered at the Ohio Township Association winter convention. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion.
All voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
