Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

October 22, 2013

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Bob Rogers, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the October 8 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $43,824.75. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from Jack Mortus requesting use of the Community Hall for a family gathering on Saturday, January 11, 2014.

The Trustees agreed Jack Mortus could use the Community Hall and waived the fee as he is a lifetime member of the fire department.

A letter from the Ottawa County Board of Elections regarding setup at the Community Hall for the General Election to be held Tuesday, November 5.

A letter from Joe Gerber, Ottawa Regional Planning Commission, regarding applications for Battlefield Preservation Grants.

A memo from Jim Darr, OSS Solid Waste District, regarding tire recycling trailers being made available November 4 through November 7 to public entities for the collection of tires found along roadsides or removed from maintenance equipment.

A letter from the Ohio Department of Transportation regarding Ohio’s QuickClear training course available on-site and free of charge for local government agencies. The course provides training on how to stay safe as a roadway incident responder while efficiently clearing a crash scene and re-opening the roadway.

A letter from Ohio Insurance Services Agency, Inc checking satisfaction with their service levels and expressing appreciation for the township’s business.



Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said the week of November 4 they will be closing the restroom at Heigle Park for the season.

Dan Barlow said they are pulling two of the three docks out of the Marina. He also said the leaf vacuum is up and running.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve $4,000 to complete work on the gabled ends of the pavilion per a quote provided by Randy J. Smith. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Police

Bob Rogers presented a proposal to upgrade the department shotguns.

The Trustee agreed the police department can upgrade the department shotguns.

New Business

William Rofkar said if there are any surplus items accumulating in the maintenance, police, or fire departments it would be good to auction the items on Govdeals.com.

Dan Barlow said the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department will be collecting non-perishable food items for local food banks.

The Trustees agreed the lobby of the administration building can be a drop-off site for the collection.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion.
All voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
