Minutes: October 13th, 2009

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman William Rofkar on October 13, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Present were William Rofkar, Robert Schroeder, Gary Mortus, Pat Cerny, Matt Montowski, Michelle Mueller, Jack Devore and Dave Belden.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the minutes as received from the September 22, 2009 meeting seconded by Robert Schroeder. All voted aye.

Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $25,883.90 seconded by Gary Mortus. All voted aye.

Correspondence included the following: Ottawa County Engineer’s Office; 2009-2010 salt contract awarded to Morton Salt Company and it is time to place orders.

Copy of correspondence addressed to the Catawba Cliffs Association in regard to concerns over the placement of an air conditioning unit on the west side of a new home.

Correspondence from Jolene Kuzma in regard to a headstone found in her family’s plot with an unknown person buried in one of the graves.

OhioEPA citizen advisory regarding Catawba Island Club Shoreline work.

Michelle Mueller and Dave Belden spoke in regard to the upcoming school levy and asked for the support of the Trustees.
Gary Mortus made a motion to pass a resolution to support the levy seconded by Robert Schroeder. Gary Mortus, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye, William Rofkar, aye.

Gary Mortus made a motion to purchase a portable police radio
for $390.00 and an additional $1000.00 for equipment for the new cruiser seconded by Robert Schroeder. All voted aye.

Robert Schroeder stated he and Pat Cerny have been working on a zoning violation and have taken some photos of the violation from an adjoining property, with permission, to give to the Prosecutor’s office.
Some thought was being given to hire outside council for some cases but William Rofkar stated we are using tax payers money to fund the Prosecutor’s office and is against it.

Halloween Trick-o-Treat will be on October 31, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Community Hall will be open to walkers the second week of November from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

William Rofkar would like to express his appreciation to Bob Rogers and the Police Department and the Fire Department for their care and thoughtfulness at the scene of the accident involving a member of his family.

Gary Mortus made a motion for adjournment seconded by Robert Schroeder. All voted aye. 7:57 p.m.
