Meeting Minutes

August 26, 2014

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, August 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Jim Stouffer, Jack DeVore, Reggie Langford, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the August 12 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $53,289.21. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A letter from Richard and Adela Kmetz regarding the new road sign at the intersection of Sand Road and West Catawba Road.

A letter from the Catawba Island Garden Club requesting use of the Community Hall for their meetings October 28, 2014 and July 28, 2015.

Trustees agreed the Garden Club could use the Community Hall and waived the fee.

A letter from the Joint Solid Waste District regarding the Labor Day week schedule. The Catawba location will receive 5 additional cans on August 26 and those cans will be removed September 2.

Notification from the Ohio Utilities Protection Service of recent changes to the O.U.P.S. General Operating Procedures and Bylaws that were previously approved in August.

A written statement from Senator Randy Gardner regarding the health of Lake Erie.

Numerous letters of support were received for the proposed 2015 road repairs and Ohio Public Works grant application.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw said the township received the second half Real Estate Property Tax with a net distribution of $392,273.69.

Karen Shaw said notification was received from the Ottawa County Budget Commission that Catawba Island Township’s share of Local Government funds for 2015 is estimated to be $15,864.65.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve a supplemental appropriation of $30,000 from 1000-760-740 Machinery, Equipment, and Furniture to 1000-330-420 Operating Supplies for road repair materials and fuel. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.


Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented quotes for turning the compost pile: David Price Metal Services $2,550 and Barnes Nursery $3,500.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve a contract with David Price Metal Services of $2,550 for turning and moving the compost pile. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow presented a quote from Masonry Construction to remove the existing concrete steps leading to the administration building conference room due to deterioration and replace the steps.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve a contract with Masonry Construction for $1,247 to replace the exterior concrete steps. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye.
Motion carried.

Dan Barlow said Kreimes is nearly finished with the road repairs and administration building parking lot repairs.

Dan Barlow said the two lights near the township marina launching ramp were struck by lightening and need replaced. He said they can be replaced with the same type of bulbs used now for $100 and then in the future we will no longer be able to get that same kind of bulb or we can rework those fixtures now and upgrade to LED bulbs for a cost of $400.

The Trustees agreed to upgrade to LED fixtures and bulbs for those two lights at this time.

New Business

Reggie Langford asked if the Schoolhouse Road berms could be widened slightly for the increased foot and bike traffic in the summer months.

The Trustees said they would talk to the County Engineer’s Department about his request.

Reggie Langford spoke briefly about plans for the upcoming Wreaths Across America ceremony this December.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:56 p.m.
