Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

September 9, 2014

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, September 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the August 26 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $77,031.17. The total includes a payment of $20,020 to The Kreimes Company for recent road repairs and $8,987 to Barnes for the fire department landscaping project. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from James Zafirau regarding the completion of his shed project and any remaining zoning concerns.

Notification from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control regarding an application for change of corporate stock ownership.

The Trustees agreed to waive any hearing with the Ohio Division of Liquor Control for the Catawba Moorings regarding change in stock ownership.

A letter from the Ohio Department of Transportation regarding the initial stages of developing the 2016-2019 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and notification of a meeting to be held in Bowling Green on September 24.

An invitation from the Ottawa County Farmers Union for their Annual Meeting to be held September 11 in Elmore.

A letter from the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District regarding their 63rd Annual Meeting and Banquet scheduled for September 24 at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the August 2014 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.


Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said he would like to send Louis Wargo to Fire Instructor Classes in Columbus for four days.

The Trustees approved of Louis Wargo attending classes in October.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said the road repairs by The Kreimes Company are complete and maintenance personnel continue to make additional road improvements.

Dan Barlow presented two quotes from The Kreimes Company to resurface and repaint the two tennis courts for a total of $32,700. He said several companies have not returned his calls. Dan Barlow said he would like to contact the contractor used for the high school courts before a decision is made.

Dan Barlow presented three quotes to repair the salt shed: Fetterman Remodeling and Construction $21,337, Attica Lumber $9,590, and G W Contractors Inc. $6,620.

Gary Mortus made a motion to contract with G W Contractors for $6,620 to repair the salt shed. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were twelve zoning permits issued for the month of August with a total of $548.20 collected in fees.

New Business

Trustees agreed the Police Department could purchase a new computer from Cross.Net, Inc. for $1,058.90 per provided quote.

Matt Montowski said Patty Cable requested to reduce her work hours for personal reasons until the first of the year.

The Trustees agreed Patty Cable could work fewer hours as agreed upon and her new schedule will be posted.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gary Mortus seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
