Minutes: October 27th, 2009

The regular meeting of the Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees was called to order by chairman William Rofkar at 7:30 p.m. on October 27, 2009 in the conference room. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

In attendance: William Rofkar, Robert Schroeder, Gary Mortus, Pat Cerny, Matt Montowski, Jack Devore, John Smothers, Mr. & Mrs. Budd, residents from 4964 Muggy Road.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting seconded by Robert Schroder. All voted aye.

Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $$44,680.73 seconded by Gary Mortus. All voted aye.

Correspondence: Notice of meetings to discuss Western Reserve Heritage Area Feasibility Study led by the National Pak Service.

Catawba Cliffs Association, John Coppeler, Treasurer, requesting that the township reimburse Catawba Cliffs Association for their deductible for the replacement of a ate on Wehye Road that was damaged during plowing by the township. This request will be turned over to the township’s insurance.

Ottawa-Sandusky-Seneca Joint Solid Waster District tire collection on Nov. 2nd through Nov. 6th.

Ottawa County Board of Elections; Election, Tuesday, November 3, 2009. They will be using the township’s community hall for this election.

Jennifer Brunner, Ohio Secretary of State – “copies of “Ohio Issues Report” for 2009.

Frank Gates Service Company – re: new deductible program introduced by Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

Thank you from Ellen Rofkar for the township’s thoughtfulness after her accident.

Mr. Budd thanked the township for maintaining a website.
Gary Mortus stated the Town Hall meeting with Representative Murray went fairly well with a good open forum. Gary Mortus complimented the maintenance department on the community hall, inside and outside.

Sergeant Jim Stewart, needs additional training for his firearm training instructor certification at a cost of $175.00. Gary Mortus also stated that Chief Rogers would like to hire Jeff Hickman as a part-time officer. Gary Mortus would like to review the schedule first so as not to penalize another part-time officer. This will be discussed further.

Gary Mortus asked Pat Cerny about the building by the Yacht Center at 1991 Northeast Catawba Road. She stated it is a temporary sales office and will be removed in the spring of 2010 after a new office is built. William Rofkar stated there are more problems as he does not feel this is a project. They will be using this building to sell boats and William Rofkar feels that this is in violation of our zoning resolution. Gary Mortus stated a stop work order should be issued.

William Rofkar stated he attended a special County Health Board Meeting. Dr. Cadigan left as the physician on the board and Dr. Briede
was appointed as the doctor on the health board.

William Rofkar stated the truck chassis is in and Dan Barlow went to check it and it will be delivered to Newell for the rest of the added equipment. The old truck will be disposed of by sealed bid.

Gary Mortus made motion for adjournment seconded by Robert Schroeder. All voted aye. 8:00 p.m
