Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

November 11, 2014

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, November 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Bob Rogers, Diane Belden, David Belden, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all followed by a moment of silence for our troops.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the October 28 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $46,666.85. The total includes a negative adjustment of $7,579.36 reflecting a refund received from the Bureau of Workers Compensation. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from the Ohio Department of Public Safety Bureau of Motor Vehicles requesting an update on current vehicle registrations.

A letter from Joyful Connections requesting a charitable contribution to assist with operational costs.

The fall newsletter from the Ottawa County Community Foundation.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the October 2014 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented quotes for grinding mulch from David Price Metal Services $5,925.50 (haul away 25%) and Barnes Nursery $6,200 (haul away 100%).

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve a contract with Barnes Nursery for $6,200 to grind and haul away all away 100% of the material they grind. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.


Police

Police Chief Bob Rogers said he would like to send Mike Woods to Data Master School for recertification. He said the cost is for travel expenses only as there is no charge for the actual training.

Trustees agreed to the travel expenses related to the necessary training for Mike Woods.

Bob Rogers said he would like the township officers to carry Narcan, a heroin antidote, in their police vehicles. He said there would be a minimal cost of approximately $200 and there is an online training course available through the hospital.

The Trustees agreed it would be a good idea for township police officers to carry Narcan.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were thirteen zoning permits issued and two map amendments for the month of October with a total of $1,294.28 collected in fees.

New Business

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve payment of mileage and expenses for the Township Trustees and Fiscal Officer to attend the 2015 Ohio Township Association Conference to be held in Columbus. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gary Mortus seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
