Meeting Minutes

February 24, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, February 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, John Gangway, Dan Barlow, Diane Belden, Dave Belden, Reggie Langford, Jack DeVore, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the February 10 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $146,335.94 which includes a payment of $93,195.50 to Valley Ford Truck Sales for the new 2015 Ford Super Duty Truck. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Mulligan and Ottawa County Sheriff Stephen Levorchick regarding Ottawa County Drug Task Force Funding and their request for a contribution proportionate to the population in our political subdivision.

A letter from Diane Belden expressing her interest in the operations of the township and requesting to serve on one or more township boards should the opportunity present itself.

A letter from the Village of Genoa certifying the leave balances of Mike Woods, former Village of Genoa employee.

A letter from The Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District regarding a variety of trees being offered to Ottawa County townships, villages and cities at a 10% discount.

An invitation from the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District to attend the 2015 Ottawa County Agricultural Community Breakfast Friday, March 20, in Oak Harbor.

A letter regarding the recent operations consolidation of Frank Gates Service Company and CareWorks and their move to operate under the new brand name of CareWorksComp.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway and Township Trustees set the annual Volunteer Fire Fighters’ Dependents Fund meeting for Tuesday, March 24, at 7 p.m. in the conference room of administration building.

Maintenance

The Road Review with the County Engineer is scheduled for Monday, March 9, at 8:30 a.m.

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said they took possession of the new dump truck and there is a possible issue with the fuel emissions system. He said the truck is at Port Clinton Ford being looked at and he should know within a few days if there is a concern.

The Trustees signed the check to Valley Ford but asked Karen Shaw to hold up mailing payment until the vehicle is cleared for service.

Dan Barlow said another load of salt is scheduled for delivery.

New Business

Trustees signed the Ottawa County Engineer’s Mileage Certification which states as of December 31, 2014 the township was responsible for maintaining 12.791 miles of public roads.

Matt Montowski suggested the township sign up zoning board members at $10 each for membership in the Ottawa County Township Association making members eligible to attend quarterly meetings and receive the quarterly Ohio Township Association magazine.

The Trustees agreed to share OTA magazine articles pertinent to zoning with zoning board members.

The Trustees set a meeting with department supervisors to discuss the budget and five year forecasting for Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
