Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

March 24, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway,
Diane Belden, Dave Belden, Jack DeVore, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the March 10 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $63,472.45. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from the Ottawa County Board of Elections regarding setup for the general election to be held Tuesday, May 5, at the Community Hall.

A letter from the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission regarding the 2015 Community Development Block Grant Program.

A letter from Larry Fletcher and the Ottawa County Visitors Bureau 2014 Summary of Activities and Accomplishments.

A letter from the Ohio Department of Transportation regarding a public involvement meeting on April 2 or April 8. The purpose of the meeting is to provide the public the opportunity to review and comment on the draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

A letter from the Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control notifying the legislative authority they have the right to object to the renewal of a permit to sell alcohol in the political subdivision and to request a hearing if so desired.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw said the township received the first half Real Estate Property Tax with a net distribution of $566,220.28.




Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said the 2003 ambulance was sent in for maintenance and they found a number of issues. The estimate for repairs is approximately $2,000.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented quotes for grinding at the compost facility; David Price Metal Services $5,280 and Barnes Nursery $12,700.

Gary Mortus made a motion to contract with David Price Metal Services in the amount of $5,280 for grinding material at the compost facility. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow discussed an issue regarding a resident on Appell Drive. He said the resident would like the township to extend the road berm to line it up with the township road due to traffic cutting the corner at his property.

The Trustees agreed the berm and road has not changed since the resident purchased the property and they did not feel it was the responsibility of the township to make any changes.

New Business

Karen Shaw said the 2006 F450 4WD 1 ton dump truck sold on govdeals.com for $22,025. She said the buyer was a business in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Gary Mortus said he recently attended the annual meeting of the Ottawa County Health Department. He said this year the fee paid to the Health Department from the township is $51,451 but that will increase next year to $57,803. He said the health department is increasing their proration for 2016. The fee is based on property valuation and Catawba Island has the third highest property valuation in the county.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
