Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

October 27, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Dave Belden, Diane Belden, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the October 13 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as amended. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $222,280.95. The total includes a payment to the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office in the amount of $170,126.04 for the 2015 township roads resurfacing project. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

Notification from the Ottawa County Board of Elections regarding set-up for the General Election Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

An invitation from Marblehead Fiscal Officer Rhonda Botti Sowers to watch a demo of the OpenGov revenue transparency software on Wednesday, October 28 at the beginning of their regular council meeting.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said they received six SCBA bottles that were on order.

John Gangway said he has one member who will be attending the volunteer fire fighter basic class at EHOVE. The cost is $500 for books and tuition.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said the cuts made on Sand Road were done by the gas company and they are being repaired.

Dan Barlow said he is not happy with the road resurfacing work done on Moores Dock Road. He said from the old road to the new road by the condos there is a dip in the road and not a smooth transition. Dan Barlow said the contractor has agreed to take care of the issue when weather permits.



New Business

Diane Belden spoke briefly about the Wreaths Across America ceremony to be held at Catawba Island Cemetery Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. She said the theme for this year is “Cemeteries are for the living. Every stone tells a story.” Diane Belden said wreaths are paid for through donations and a pancake breakfast fundraiser was recently held to support the program in Ottawa County. There will be six cemeteries in Ottawa County holding ceremonies this year.

William Rofkar made a motion to contract with DeAngelo Brothers, Inc. for three years at a cost of $2,750 each year for herbicide bare ground spraying at Rock Ledge along Sand Road, the West Harbor Marina Boat Launch parking lot, and the ditch pump area off Route 53. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski spoke briefly about the Ottawa County Township Association meeting recently held in Salem Township. He said Ottawa County Human Resources is offering supervisor training at $15 per person and township personnel are encouraged to attend.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
