Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

November 24, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, November 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow,
John Gangway, Ernie Wylie, Kevin Wylie, Diane Belden, Quintin Smith, and
Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the November 10 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as received. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $49,352.59. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from Larry Schultz, John Braun Park Board President, requesting the zoning variance fee be waived for a new accessory building at John Braun Memorial Park.

Trustees agreed John Braun Park serves the community.

Matt Montowski made a motion to waive the zoning variance fee for the John Braun Park project as requested. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

A letter from Ohio Public Entity Consortium regarding the 2015 OPEC Delta Dental Renewal.

An email from the Joint Solid Waste District regarding advertisement of live Christmas tree recycling opportunities. Catawba Island maintenance personnel will collect trees roadside through the month on January.

A letter from the Ottawa County Board of Elections regarding the Presidential Primary election to be held Tuesday, March 15, 2016 and the General Election to be held November 8, 2016.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway asked for approval of new member applicant Austin Rospert.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve Austin Rospert as a probationary Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department member for one year. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.


New Business

Diane Belden updated Trustees on plans for the Wreaths Across America ceremony scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 12, at the cemetery.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the township health care with Ohio Insurance Services for 2016 at the 12.5% renewal rate of $18,677.90 per month and pay a one-time Assessment of Deficit Recovery of $26,000 in 2015. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Trustees agreed to move the next regular Board of Trustees meeting to Monday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the administration building. The zoning related public hearing will take place as scheduled December 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Hall.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
