Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees
December 8, 2015
Trustee Chairman Gary Mortus called the Public Hearing to order at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, at the Catawba Island Community Hall located at 3307 NW Catawba Road.
Gary Mortus introduced Trustee Vice Chairman William Rofkar, Trustee Matt Montowski, Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw and Zoning Inspector Walter Wehenkel.

Gary Mortus described application #008623, a proposed map amendment initiated by
Matt Mecurio and Harold Roth for a parcel of land in Catawba Island Township containing approximately 1.92 acres. The street addresses for the properties are 3147 and 3169 N. East Catawba Road. The owner proposes to rezone the property from the “C-1” Neighborhood Commercial District to the “C-2” General Commercial District.
Gary Mortus asked if the Trustees had a conflict with the case. No conflicts were expressed.
Gary Mortus said The Ottawa Regional Planning Commission met on November 17, 2015, and voted to recommend approval of the rezoning request.
Gary Mortus said the Catawba Island Zoning Commission met on November 18, 2015, and voted to recommend disapproval of the rezoning request as submitted.
Gary Mortus explained that a letter requesting an extension of 90 days was received from the applicant late in the afternoon. Gary Mortus said Trustees will vote on the request at the end of the meeting.
Karen Shaw read the letter submitted by the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission regarding the rezoning request.

Gary Mortus opened the floor to those in attendance and invited them to come forward and speak from the podium. Individuals coming forward to speak include the following: Rick Hines,
Dr. Michael Mabee, John Imke, Bob Pudelski, Chris Redfern, Richard Smetzer, and Al McKean.
Additional questions and comments were received from those in attendance.
William Rofkar and Matt Montowski offered comments for consideration by those in attendance.
As requested by a resident in attendance, Gary Mortus asked who was in favor of the application. There were no hands raised.
Matt Montowski made a motion to continue the hearing, as requested by the applicant, to Monday, March 7, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Hall. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
