Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Trustee Chairman William Rofkar called the Public Hearing to order Tuesday, April 12, 2016,
at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building.
Present: Trustee William Rofkar, Trustee Matt Montowski, Trustee Gary Mortus,
Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw, Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow, and Fire Chief John Gangway

William Rofkar explained application #008640 concerning property in the Catawba Place Subdivision. He said 3080 N. Tiara Drive is a residential area but zoned commercial and the owners David and Jacqueline Jasinski would like to build a new home on the lot. Present zoning is “C-2” General Commercial and the applicant is requesting a zoning change to the “R-2” Residential District.
William Rofkar said the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission reviewed the application and voted to recommend approval of the rezoning request on March 15, 2016.
William Rofkar said the Zoning Commission met Wednesday, March 16, 2016 and recommended approval of the request.
William Rofkar asked the applicant to present his case.
David Jasinski explained they made the rezoning request because the required setbacks are less with residential zoning than with commercial zoning. He said every other lot in the subdivision is residential except for his neighbors.
The Trustees discussed the request.
Matt Montowski made a motion to approve zoning application #008640 as requested.
Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
