Meeting Minutes

October 24, 2017


The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Kevin Wylie, Ernest Wylie, Sandy Ridge, Lawrene Montowski, Jean Witkowski, Diane Belden, Rick Smetzer, and Dusty Walker

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the October 10, 2017 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $166,309.04 including a payment of $107,699.18 to the Ottawa County Engineers’ Office for the administration building parking lot resurfacing project. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A note from Dan Barlow requesting use of the Community Hall for the Marine Corps Birthday celebration on November 10.

Trustees agreed the Community Hall could be used for the Marine Corps Birthday and waived the fee.

A letter from the Ottawa County Board of Elections regarding the General Election Tuesday, November 7, and expressing appreciation for use of the Community Hall as a polling location.

A letter from the Joint Solid Waste Management District regarding a tire recycling trailer available at the Ottawa County Highway Garage October 30 through November 2 for collection of township tires. The collection is not intended for the general public.

A recall Notice from the Ford Motor Company regarding the F-550 Truck.

Dan Barlow said an appointment is scheduled for service regarding the recall.

A letter from the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office regarding closure of West Catawba Road between Cemetery Road and Schoolhouse Roads.



Maintenance

Dan Barlow said the Fall Cleanup is complete and there were 14 containers of debris removed and an addition 3 containers of metal hauled away.

Dan Barlow said they are in the process of closing the marina restrooms and pulling the remaining docks. He said the Heigel Park restrooms will remain open a couple more weeks due to a sporting event scheduled.

Dan Barlow said the Community Hall is now open for walkers during the day.

Dan Barlow said they are preparing for winter road maintenance and ordering a load of salt to fill the bins.


New Business

Diane Belden said the Parks Board has scheduled a Fall Walk for Saturday, September 28, at 9:30 a.m. weather permitting. She said they will serve donuts and cider and have a pumpkin activity for the children.

Karen Shaw said Ohio Insurance Services Agency, Inc. is offering continued participation in the ACA Small Employer Reporting Program for the tax year 2017 at an annual cost of $50 plus $15 per covered employee.

Trustees agreed to continue in the participation in the ACA Small Employer Reporting Program offered by Ohio Insurance Services.

Matt Montowski said he was been asked by the Ottawa County Engineers’ Office if the Trustees have any concerns regarding a driveway permit for property located at 3522 NW Catawba Road.

The Trustees agreed they do not have any concerns regarding the driveway permit.

William Rofkar reported that Fire Chief Kevin Wylie said the Scout and Engine 22 are in for repairs.

Trustees agreed the fire department could use the administration building lobby as a collection site for nonperishable food items for a local food pantry.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
