Meeting Minutes

February 27, 2018

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow,
John Gangway, Kevin Wylie, Diane Belden, Dave Belden, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the February 13, 2018, Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the payroll, in the amount of $60,608.83. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A letter of resignation from Randy Riedmaier announcing effective Wednesday, February 28, 2018, he resigns as a casual labor employee for the township.

A letter from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency regarding receipt of the 2017 Compost Facility Annual Report for Catawba Island Township. The Ohio EPA found the Report to be complete and no deficiencies were noted.

A letter from Michael Wittman of the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office requesting information regarding a 1972 curved re-location of Caroline Street and Basin Drive in Gem Beach.

The January 2018 Chamber Compass from the Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce.

An invitation from the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District to the 2018 Ottawa County Agricultural Community Breakfast Friday, March 16, at 8:00 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor.

An invitation from Lake Erie Shores & Islands to the Annual State of Tourism Address event to be held at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Sandusky on Thursday, April 5 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Police

Police Chief John Gangway said he is getting prices for video camera equipment for the office.


Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented a quote from Murphy Tractor & Equipment for a John Deere 310SL Backhoe Loader for a delivered price of $68,279.30 which includes a State Term Schedule Discount of $80,018.70 and a trade in of $25,000 for the 2011 310J Backhoe.

Matt Montowski made a motion to purchase a new John Deere 310SL Backhoe Loader from Murphy Tractor & Equipment for a delivered price of $68,279.30 at the state bid cost and including trade in of the old John Deere Backhoe. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

New Business

Gary Mortus said the Road Review with representatives from the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office will be Wednesday, March 7, at 9:30 a.m.

Matt Montowski made a motion to sell two old parking lot light poles on Govdeals.com. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski discussed a recent meeting he attended regarding possible changes to the Ottawa County 911 radio system.

Trustees asked Fire Chief Kevin Wylie to attend a work session on Tuesday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. with members of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department to discuss staffing and future needs of the department.

Trustees signed the 2017 Township Highway System Mileage Certification for the Ohio Department of Transportation. The total certified mileage at the end of Calendar Year 2017 for Catawba Island Township was 12.705 miles.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
