The regular meeting of the Catawba Island Township Board of Zoning Appeals was called to order by Chairman Dale VanLerberghe at 7:30 in the conference room. Present were Tom Anslow, Jack DeVore, Dale VanLerberghe, Bryan Baugh, and Pat Cerny. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the introduction of the Board members and a brief overview of the meeting proceedings.
Case # 543425 - Scott and Sue Palmer – Lot 31, 1133 N. Byrneal Beach – R-3
Pat Cerny read the request for an area variance for a side yard setback of 3 ft. 2 inches, instead of the required 5 feet, to put an addition onto an existing garage. Scott Palmer addressed the Board regarding his request. Jerry Stidham, adjacent property owner, spoke against allowing the variance. After some discussion it was realized the request was actually for a new unattached structure and not an addition as originally implied. Pat Cerny informed Scott Palmer he could amend his request and the Board offered ideas for amendment and Scott Palmer agreed.
Bryan Baugh made a motion to approve request #543425 as amended to allow an accessory building with a size of 978 sq. ft. instead of the allowable 750 sq. ft. as permitted in the R-3 district and a setback of 3 ft. 2 inches instead of the required 5 ft. Jack DeVore seconded the motion. Bryan Baugh, no; Jack DeVore, yes; Tom Anslow, yes; and Dale VanLerberghe, no. Failure of majority vote shall constitute disapproval (page 128, sec. B.2) therefore the request was not passed.
Dale VanLerberghe made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Tom Anslow seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned.
