Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Special Meeting

July 2, 2019

Catawba Island Township Trustees held a special meeting on Tuesday, July 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building. The purpose of the meeting was to meet with members of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department to discuss EMS service.

In attendance were: Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Kevin Wylie, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Ernie Wylie, Louie Wargo, Brad Busby, Eric Schramm, Will Moore Jr.,
Paul Ochs, Brian Washburn, Bob Christiansen, Randy Riedmaier, Julie Wylie, Diane Belden, and Dave Belden

Trustees discussed their concern with CIVFD member staffing as it relates to EMS service.

William Rofkar said he has been working on paperwork and moving forward with agreement to contract with Medicount for EMS billing services for the township, however, Port Clinton Fire Chief Kent Johnson has offered to provide assistance to the township and strong consideration is being made to partner with Port Clinton. He said Port Clinton has staff at the station waiting for calls and can provide immediate response.

Trustees agreed they would be in favor of turning EMS operations over to Port Clinton Fire Department for responding to township EMS calls if there is no internal solution to concerns.

Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department members were asked to attend the next regular Trustees meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. and offer a resolution to current concerns or a plan for the future.

No decisions or motions were made and the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
