Agenda Item 1 – Request for a Zoning Amendment
Secretary Bickley indicated that the zoning office has not received a zoning amendment application.
Agenda Item 2 – Approval of Minutes
No corrections or additions were made to the January 8, 2020 Meeting Minutes and they stand approved as emailed.
Agenda Item 3 – Unfinished Business
Secretary Bickley reviewed the height of several existing pole signs: the Dollar General sign (20’), Jack Bradley Realty sign (approximately 10’), Midway gas station signs (28’ & 26’) and the Morgan Realty sign (undetermined). Chairman Davenport noted that his brother, who is a sign maker, indicated that pole signs are generally no longer used and that ten feet (10’) is a sufficient height. Dr. Gregory Hart commented that his business sign is higher than ten (10’) feet. A review of the file suggested that the business sign is approximately sixteen feet (16’). Discussion followed.
Lewis Mindlin made a motion to limit the height of freestanding signs to twelve feet (12’). The motion was seconded by Ron Wiseman. Voting in favor of the motion were Lewis Mindlin, Paul Shaw and Ron Wiseman. Dr. Gregory Hart voted against the motion. Chairperson Davenport did not vote.
Secretary Bickley will submit the text change for Commission review at its next meeting.
Secretary Bickley questioned the commission member’s opinion as to whether the accessory building maximum size requirement should be increased from 950 square feet to 1,200 square feet. Secretary Bickley noted in the “R-1” District, the minimum lot size is 15,000 square feet and the maximum cumulative accessory building square footage is also 950 square feet. The minimum lot size for the “A” District is one (1) acre. Discussion followed. The commission members agreed to increase the cumulative maximum accessory building square footage in the “A” District from 950 square feet to 1,200 square feet.
Secretary Bickley also asked the commission members to review storage and how it is regulated under Catawba Island Township zoning. Currently, regulations are for boat storage and mini storage buildings. Should the regulations be amended to address non-boat storage buildings?

No new business to conduct.
