ZONING COMMISSION MINUTES

Members of the Commission in attendance were Chairman Jordan Davenport, Paul Shaw, Ron Wiseman, Lewis Mindlin, Jeff Green, Alternate Dr. Gregory Hart, Alternate Matt Gottron and Secretary Todd Bickley. Trustee Matt Montowski was also in attendance.

Chairperson Jordan Davenport called the meeting of the Catawba Island Township Zoning Commission to order at 7:00 p.m. For the record, he identified the date as August 26, 2020. Chairperson Davenport did not read the meeting process.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, although later in the meeting.
Agenda Item 1 – Request for a Zoning Amendment
Secretary Bickley indicated that the zoning office has not received a zoning amendment application for the Commission’s consideration.
Agenda Item 2 – Approval of Minutes
Vice Chairperson Paul Shaw read the July 22, 2020 Meeting Minutes. Jeff Green made a motion to accept the July 22, 2020 minutes as read. The motion was seconded by Lewis Mindlin. Motion passed.
Agenda Item 3 – Unfinished Business
The text amendments, as initiated by the Zoning Commission, were reviewed. Chairperson Davenport read the recommendation letter from the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission, which was for approval of the text amendments. Secretary/Zoning Inspector Todd Bickley had no additional comments to make since the letter from Mark Messa clearly identified the proposed amendments. Jeff Green questioned the addition of non-commercial boat docks as structures accessory to the principal use in the “R-3”, “C-3”, “C-4” and “M” Districts. Mr. Bickley indicated that this statement is listed in the other zoning districts and appeared to have been omitted from the above referenced districts. Mr. Bickley also noted that a zoning permit is required for non-commercial docks.
With no additional questions or comments, Chairperson Davenport requested recommending to the Trustees approval of the proposed text amendments. The vote was as follows:
Paul Shaw – Yes, Lewis Mindlin – Yes, Ron Wiseman – Yes, Jeff Green – Yes
Chairman Davenport indicated that the recommendation of the Zoning Commission is for the approval of the text amendments.
Agenda Item 4 – New Business
Secretary Bickley informed the commission members that a rezoning application was dropped off today.
Agenda Item 5 – Other Business
Chairman Davenport informed the Board that the Trustees have developed a new application for the zoning and park boards. Trustee Matt Montowski explained the application and appointment process.
The next meeting of the Catawba Island Zoning Commission is Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

With no other business to conduct, Chairman Davenport adjourned the meeting at 7:18 p.m.
