Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

November 24, 2020

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, November 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Hall located at 3307 NW Catawba Road.

In attendance were: Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Diane Belden, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow,
John Gangway, Kevin Gibbons, Jim Stouffer, Ann Rumpf, Jack Madison, Randy Riedmaier and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Diane Belden made a motion to approve the November 10, 2020 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the payroll, in the amount of $88,201.14. The total includes a payment of $12,582.84 to Pavement Technology for road work and a payment of $9,093.46 to W.W. Williams for fire truck repairs and maintenance. Diane Belden seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The Ottawa County Community Foundation Fall 2020 newsletter highlighting more than $143,000 awarded in scholarships in 2020.

An email from Joseph Krysh regarding a private property drainage issue from 2957 N. Swift onto 5721 E. Commodore Drive property.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said the homeowner on Carriage Lane in Colony Club has contracted to have their water runoff issue corrected to drain under the road into the marina basin and will no longer pump excess water improperly over the township road.

Dan Barlow said the Chapel has been winterized and the tennis courts at Heigel Park are closed. He said the maintenance crew will continue to pick up leaves every day as needed and the final brush pickup for the year was just completed. Dan Barlow said the salt supply for winter road maintenance is sufficient for now.

Trustees agreed to purchase a new sign for the Catawba Point Preserve from Davenport Sign and Art for approximately $350 as requested by the Parks Board. Township maintenance personnel will prepare the posts and install the sign when complete.

Police

Police Chief John Gangway said the new part time officer has started and is getting familiar with operations.



Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw said that at the January 6, 2020 Trustee meeting a motion to transfer $100,000 from the General Fund to the Gas Tax Fund for the purpose of paying for repairs and maintenance of township roads was approved however, due to the Covid pandemic the project to widen West Catawba Road was postponed and therefore the additional funds were not needed and the $100,000 was not transferred from the General Fund to the Gas Tax Fund.

New Business

Diane Belden said the wreaths for our cemetery for Wreaths Across America are scheduled to arrive on December 15.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Diane Belden seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7: 50 p.m.
