Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

April 9, 2013


The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, Karen Shaw, John Gangway, Dan Barlow, Jeff Kennedy, Jackson Kennedy, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the March 26 regular meeting minutes as presented. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $66,178.08. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.


Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

An invitation from the Clay Township Police Department to attend the Ottawa County Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony Monday, May 13, 2013.

A letter from Breann Christiansen requesting use of the Community Hall for a family function on April 13, 2013.

The Trustees agreed Breann Christiansen could use the Community Hall and waived the fee.

A letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regarding coastal fieldwork for FEMA Coastal Studies and Risk Analysis in Erie and Ottawa Counties. The field crews will be in and around the area from April 14 through April 19, 2103.


Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the March financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.


Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said the internet upgrade in the administration building is complete and running well. He said they continue to have ongoing problems at the fire station and have been without internet service at that location for three weeks.


John Gangway said EHOVE is going to have fire training in the form of a “live burn” in Milan over the weekend and he has two members that would like to attend. He said the cost is $50 each for the training.

The Trustees agreed the two fire members could attend the training.

John Gangway said engine 24 is back in service after repairs were made by Midway. He said the fuel tank and brakes were repaired for a total cost of $380.

John Gangway said the fire department has a pending problem with the air compressor. He said it has an oil leak and one of the filters is damaged. John Gangway said the air compressor is currently out of service and they are looking into the best option for repair


Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow discussed township membership with the Ohio Utilities Protection Service and changes being implemented with their program.

The Trustees agreed the township should apply to become a member of the Ohio Utilities Protection Service and receive notifications.

The Trustees asked Dan Barlow to look into repairing the lights along the steps leading from the parking lot to the administration building conference room.

A brief discussion took place regarding any repairs still necessary from the hail storm last summer. The Trustees asked Dan Barlow to look into the damage on the front of the administration building.


New Business

Matt Montowski made a motion to rehire Patty Cable effective April 15 at the same rate of pay. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

The Trustees approved the ads provided by the OSS Solid Waste District to be submitted to the local newspapers for the Compost Workshop on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gary Mortus seconded the motion.
All voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
