Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

June 25, 2013


The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, June 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Bob Rogers, Judi Halstead, Diane Belden, David Belden, Reggie Langford, Rich Zoyhofski, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the June 11 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $78,447.26. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
The total included a payment of $40,175.30 to the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office for the road resurfacing project in the Rittenhouse subdivision.


Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township and read:

A letter from Carole Smith Pinover regarding her desire to sell two cemetery plots back to the township for the original price paid.

The Trustees agreed to purchase the plots back for the original price paid.

A letter from the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission regarding the Final Re-Plat of Lot 27 and Reserve Area A in Catawba Place Subdivision, located in Section 3, Lot 13, of Catawba Island Township.

A letter from the Lake Erie Shores and Islands Welcome Centers and an information packet to help answer frequently asked questions regarding tourism.

Notice from the Ottawa County Health Department regarding a drainage ditch complaint.


Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw said the first half real estate property tax rollback was received with a net distribution of $60,969.18.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said the fire department would like to replace two sections of fire hose supply line for a total cost of $1,513.18 from Fire Safety Services.

The Trustees agreed to the purchase of two supply line sections from Fire Safety Services.


Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented proposals for asphalt repairs on township roads from the following: The Kreimes Company $23,900; Holcomb Enterprises $24,105, and Precision Paving $28,720. The asphalt repairs are for sections of Schoolhouse, Moore’s Dock, Twin Beach and Cemetery Roads.

Matt Montowski made a motion to contract with The Kreimes Company in the amount of $23,900 for asphalt repairs on Schoolhouse, Moore’s Dock, Twin Beach and Cemetery Roads. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow discussed ongoing work regarding catch basin and drainage tile repairs near Weyhe Road and the Rittenhouse Subdivision to help prevent the roads from flooding.

Dan Barlow said the International truck has been picked up by Henderson and they are going to complete the necessary repairs as outlined in their original quote.

Dan Barlow said he looked into the notice from the Health Department regarding the drainage complaint. He said the drainage ditch in question is not on township property.

The Trustees asked Dan Barlow to follow up with the Health Department regarding the complaint.

Dan Barlow asked the Trustees to make another resolution regarding the grant request application to OSS Solid Waste District as the original request has changed.

A Resolution to apply for the OSS Solid Waste District’s Competitive Funding Grant was made by Trustees to pursue the application for park benches.

A motion to adopt the resolution was made by William Rofkar and seconded by Matt Montowski. All voted aye. Motion carried.


Police

Police Chief Bob Rogers asked the Trustees to consider hiring a part-time police officer. He submitted the application of an applicant for consideration.



New Business

Diane Belden and Reggie Langford gave a brief presentation regarding the Wreaths Across America project they are organizing for December 14, 2013 at Catawba Island Cemetery.

Judi Halstead of Integrity Productions gave a presentation regarding her business and presented examples of her work including a map handout created for the Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce. Judi Halstead said she would like to work with the township to create a Catawba Island Township map.

William Rofkar said a resident living at the corner of Linda Drive and NW Catawba spoke with him in complaint of water in her yard. He said he spoke with the Ottawa County Engineer’s Department regarding the issue because it is a problem at the intersection of a county and a township road. William Rofkar said the issue will be followed up on in the future.

Gary Mortus said he gave permission to the Port Clinton City Schools Athletic Boosters to take the grass clippings from the football field to the township compost facility.

Karen Shaw said the zoning map is now loaded on the township website.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion.
All voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
