Meeting Minutes

November 12, 2013

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, November 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Reggie Langford, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the October 22 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $112,478.66. The total includes a payment of $31,162 to Statewide Ford for the new police vehicle, two payments totaling $14,500 to Randy J. Smith for roof repairs to the pavilion located behind the fire station, and a $4,000 payment to Cold Spring Granite for the concrete work completed around the new columbarium. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

Two letters from the Ford Motor Company regarding safety recall notices for two police vehicles.

A letter from Ohio Public Entity Consortium regarding the Healthcare Independence Initiative.

A letter from Dave Yost, Auditor of State, expressing appreciation of efforts to transition to the new UAN computer systems in 2013 and the announcement of a one year UAN Hardware Surcharge Holiday being implemented January 1, 2014 which will result in a $50 per month savings to the township.

Two letters from Joe Gerber of the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission one regarding the re-plat of lots 13 and 14 West Catawba Lagoons, Plat 1 and the other regarding the Catawba Meadows Subdivision. Both preliminary re-plats will be considered at the next Ottawa Regional Planning Commission meeting to be held on November 19, 2013.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the October financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Karen Shaw said the Auditor of State has released the regular audit for the years ending December 31, 2012-2011 and it is on file at the township.


Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said he received a request from a veteran asking to allow a 21 Gun Salute at the veterans’ memorial even though there will not be a burial.

The Trustees agreed a 21 Gun Salute is allowed without a burial.

Gary Mortus said maintenance personnel will be attending a two hour road products and processes seminar being hosted by Perkins Township on Wednesday, November 13.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were a total of seventeen permits and two variances issued for the month of October with a total of $2,978.62 collected in fees.

New Business

Reggie Langford gave an update on the Wreaths Across America special ceremony being presented December 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Catawba Island Cemetery where wreaths will be placed on every veteran’s grave. He was pleased to announce they have reached 100% of their fundraising goal. The wreath laying ceremony, playing of Taps, special guest speaker Randy Gardner and other tributes will be part of the meaningful day.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve payment of mileage and expenses for the Township Trustees and Fiscal Officer to attend the 2014 Ohio Township Association Conference to be held in Columbus. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion.
All voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
