Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

March 10, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Diane Belden, Reggie Langford, Jack DeVore, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the February 24 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the March 5 Special meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $54,946.05. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A letter of thanks from Joyce Jagucki expressing her sincere appreciation for the prompt response and care received by the Catawba Island emergency response personnel.

A letter from Robert Christiansen Jr. requesting use of the Community Hall in October for a family function.

Trustees agreed Robert Christiansen could use the Community Hall and waived the fee.

A letter from the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office regarding their Annual Meeting of the Ottawa County Township Association to be held April 9 at the fairgrounds.

A letter from the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office regarding the Annual Bridge Condition Report. A summary of the bridge conditions for structures in Ottawa County was attached.

A letter from the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission regarding the 2015 Community Development Block Grant Program.

An invitation to a half-day seminar “Leading Economic Development: A Toolkit for Public Officials and Civic Leaders” March 27 at the University of Toledo Health Science Campus.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the February 2015 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.


Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented quotes from Bill’s Implement Sales for mowers utilizing the current trade-in program. Dan Barlow asked to upgrade the current 61” mower to a 72” to save time. A new Ferris IS3200 72” mower for use at various township locations cost is $4,300 with trade in. A new Ferris IS-600 48” mower to be used in the cemetery cost is $2,300 with trade-in.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the purchase of two Ferris mowers from Bill’s Implement through the trade-in program with a total cost of $6,600 per provided quotes. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

The Trustees also approved the purchase of a new seat for one of the mowers and other minor mower equipment parts as needed.

Dan Barlow said they ordered parts to repair the snow plow truck and will repair in house when time allows.

Dan Barlow said the salt bins are full and they will be scheduling repair of the salt shed, approved by Trustees last fall, in the near future.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were three zoning permits issued for the month of February with a total of $163.04 collected in fees.

New Business

Matt Montowski said he would like to attend two grant workshops offered by the Ohio Township Association. Grant Basics to be held March 23 and Developing Budgets offered April 20 are both one day workshops at a cost of $65 each.

Gary Mortus and William Rofkar offered their support of Matt Montowski attending the workshops.

Trustees agreed the surplus dump truck should be offered on govdeals.com with a $20,000 reserve price.

William Rofkar said Public Records training is now being offered online through the Ohio Attorney General’s office for public officials and anyone who is interested. William Rofkar said he will ask Patty Cable to complete the training to familiarize herself with the Sunshine Laws.

Karen Shaw said Spring and Fall Clean Up days have been scheduled for April 22 through 26 and October 21 through 25.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
