Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

June 9, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow,
John Gangway, Laurie Weinberg, Diane Belden, Dave Belden, Sandy Frey, and Joyce Nelson.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the May 26 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $61,182.22. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission regarding the annual assessment in support of the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission for the period July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. The fee is based on a 2010 population of 3,599 persons at a rate of $0.60 per person for a total fee of $2,159.40.

A letter from Joyce Nelson on behalf of the Ballard Homeowners Association, seeking help concerning the property located at 5279 East Charles Lane. She said the homeowners association has been mowing the grass but no other maintenance has been done and they are concerned with overgrown shrubs and weeds as well as animals in the house.

The Ottawa County Annual Report from the Ottawa County Commissioners.

A letter from the Ohio Public Utilities Protection Service regarding elections for Trustee positions at its next membership meeting to be held August 21.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the May 2015 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were thirteen zoning permits and three variances issued for the month of May with a total of $1,791.95 collected in fees.


Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented estimates from Mullens Tree Service to remove trees and stumps in front of the Community Hall, Administration Building, and the cemetery for a total of $1,250.

Trustees agreed the trees and stumps should be removed.

Dan Barlow presented proposals from Barnes Nursery for $7,900 and David Price Metal Services for $6,216 to grind raw wood and remove from the compost facility.

William Rofkar made a motion to contract with David Price Metal Services for $6,216 to grind and remove material from the compost facility. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow said the leaf vacuum is in need of repairs. He said maintenance personnel will make the repairs in house, however, for the best results some parts need to be made at the factory at a cost of approximately $500 and shipped to the township for assembly.

The Trustees agreed to the cost of having the factory make parts for the repair.

New Business

Laurie Weinberg of Ohio Plan Risk Management Inc. presented the property and liability insurance renewal proposed for the township. She said new to the proposal is cyber coverage. Laurie presented the package policy premium total of $51,218 less an Advantage Plan Premium Credit of $5,786 for a total of $45,432. The total is slightly less than the premium last year even with the additional cost for cyber coverage.

Joyce Nelson spoke of behalf of the Ballard Homeowners Association regarding the property located at 5279 Charles Lane.

Matt Montowski agreed to look into the matter further.

Karen Shaw said Jim Stewart has returned to full duty with the police department effective June 5, 2015.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
