Meeting Minutes

October 13, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Ernest Wylie, Steve May, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the September 22 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll in the amount of $55,694.14. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

Jim Stewart requested use of the Community Hall November 15, 2015.

Trustees agree Jim Stewart could use the Community Hall in November and waived the fee.

Notification from the Ottawa County Engineers Office regarding the Salt Settlement in the case against Morton Salt. Projected disbursement for Catawba Island Township is $481.94.

Notice of the Ottawa County Township Association meeting Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Salam Township Hall in Oak Harbor.

Information from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources regarding the 2015 Northwest Ohio Urban Forestry Seminar to be held Thursday, November 5, 2015.

A postcard from CareWorks noting the achievement of zero workplace injury claims for the first half of 2015.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the September 2015 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve a supplemental appropriation of $8,000 from 2041-410-360 Contracted Services to 2041-410-190 Other-Salaries for the purpose of paying salaries from the Cemetery Fund. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said the Scout is back from Lakeland where the front axle seals were replaced and the radiator was repaired.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said repairs will begin on Moores Dock road within the next two weeks. He said crack sealing on Muggy Road will take place by the end of the week.

Dan Barlow said leaf pick up will begin the week of October 19 along with the fall clean which will run from October 21 through 25. He said the final brush pick up will take place the last week of October.

Trustees agreed maintenance personnel should begin opening the Community Hall in the morning for walkers.

Trustees agreed Ted Day can attend the 2016 Ohio Commercial Pesticide Recertification Conference at a cost of $75 to renew his herbicide application license.

Karen Shaw said Dave Behrens recently celebrated 15 year of service with the township.

Dan Barlow said the CIVFD would like to collect nonperishable food items for a local food pantry. The Trustees agreed they could set up a collection location in the lobby of the administration building.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were seventeen zoning permits and one variance issued for the month of September with a total of $1,426.24 collected in fees.

New Business

Steve May discussed the Planned Unit Development at The Sanctuary.

The Trustees agreed the township Zoning Inspector, Walter Wehenkel, has the flexibility to approve building footprints for The Sanctuary at Catawba Island Club.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the purchase of a 2016 Ford Explorer from Statewide Ford for $30,500 through the state purchasing program and an additional $1,500 for radio equipment from Cleveland Communications. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow said he would like to use the Community Hall for the Marine Corps Birthday Party on November 10. Trustees agreed the Community Hall could be used for the Marine Corp Birthday celebration and waived the fee.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
