Meeting Minutes
January 12, 2016
The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Vice Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, January 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.
In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, Karen Shaw, John Gangway, Dan Barlow, Diane Belden, Dave Belden, Richard Smetzer, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.
Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the December 22 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented which included the reorganization for 2016. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Gary Mortus made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last two payrolls in the amount of $62,726.18. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Correspondence
The following correspondence was received by the township:
A letter from Robert Christiansen Jr. regarding his availability for fire and EMS calls.
A letter from the Ottawa County Engineers Office advising they are scheduling road tours and project consultations for the month of March.
A letter from the Ottawa County Engineers Office including the summary of bridge conditions for structures in Ottawa County.
Annual notification from Virginia Park, Ottawa County Recorder, regarding Zoning Resolutions and Amendments per the Ohio Revised Code. The fees are $50 for a resolution and $20 for an amendment.
Fire and Safety
Fire Chief John Gangway presented a quote from Cleveland Communications, Inc. for $644.28 for a charger and six batteries.
Trustees agreed to the purchase of a charger and six batteries from Cleveland Communications for use at the fire department.
Maintenance
Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented quotes for grinding from Barnes Nursery for $4,900 and David Price Metal Services for $6,400.
Gary Mortus made a motion to contract with Barnes Nursery for $4,900 for grinding and hauling material off site. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Gary Mortus made a motion to have Randy J. Smith Construction & Roofing repair the wind damaged administration building roof for $2,800. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Zoning
Matt Montowski said there were 89 zoning permits and 22 variances issued in 2015 with a total of $12,151.78 collected in fees.
Fiscal
Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the December 2015 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.
Karen Shaw said the Annual Report has been submitted for the year ending December 31, 2015 and is on file at the township. Notification will be sent to The Beacon for publication.
Karen Shaw presented the Annual Appropriation Resolution for the Fiscal Year 2016.
Gary Mortus made a motion to adopt the Annual Appropriation Resolution for the Fiscal Year 2016 as presented by Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw in the amount of $4,225,000. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Gary Mortus made a motion to allow the Fiscal Officer to create Blanket Certificates in 2016
not to exceed $15,000 at any one time assuming adequate appropriation amounts are available. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
