Public Hearing

September 12, 2017

Trustee Chairman Matt Montowski called the Public Hearing to order Tuesday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building.

In attendance were: Gary Mortus, William Rofkar, Matt Montowski, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Kevin Wylie, Ernest Wylie, Diane Belden, Allen Stryker, Mary Williams,
Jeff Williams, Dawn Dubbert, Jim Dubbert, Bruce Buckingham, Lisa Murphy, Richard Helsper, Rick Smetzer, Randy Riedmaier Connie Batterton, Ken Landon, and Craig Koerpel

Matt Montowski reviewed application #068039 submitted by Dorothy Thompson. The applicant proposes to rezone a 1.01 acre parcel of land located at 4967 Muggy Road from the “A” Residential Low Density District to the “R-1” Residential District. The applicant proposes to split off the house from the larger parcel.

Matt Montowski said the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission met on August 15, 2017 and voted to recommend approval of the rezoning request.

Matt Montowski said the Zoning Commission met on August 23, 2017 and voted to recommend approval of the rezoning request.

The Trustees reviewed and discussed the rezoning request.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve application #068039 and rezone the parcel as requested from “A” Residential Low Density to “R-1” Residential. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski reviewed the proposed text amendments initiated by the Catawba Island Township Zoning Commission. The text amendments propose to modify the definitions of the following; Dwelling, Dwelling, Multiple-Family, and Dwelling, Units.

The modification would require that permanent occupancy for multiple-family dwellings be by two (2) or more families living independently of each other and always used by the same occupants for a continual period of not less than thirty (30) days.

Matt Montowski said the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission met on August 15, 2017 and voted to recommend approval of the text amendments.

The Trustees reviewed and discussed the text amendments.


Gary Mortus said he would like clarification on how the text amendments would affect some property owners currently grandfathered to allow weekly rentals from prior to the establishment of zoning.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
