Meeting Minutes

December 12, 2017

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw,
Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Kevin Wylie, Julie Wylie, Ernie Wylie, Rick Hartman,
Rick Smetzer, Diane Belden, Reggie Langford, Lawrene Montowski, Randy Riedmaier,
and Jack DeVore

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the November 28, 2017 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the payroll, in the amount of $69,894.05. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A note from Devin Pollock requesting use of the Community Hall for a party she is hosting on March 10, 2018.

Trustees agreed Devin Pollock could use the Community Hall and waived the fee.

A letter from Lafarge announcing effective January 1, 2018 prices will rise approximately 5% on products in the Great Lakes Region.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the November 2017 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were ten permits and one variance issued in November with a total of $684.62 collected in fees.

Police

Police Chief John Gangway said Devin Pollock will be attending a Taser Instructor class in Medina Wednesday and Thursday and will be taking the patrol car.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said the hydraulic pump went out on the maintenance dump truck and the spare pump on the shelf was used to repair the truck. He said they will take the broken pump to Oak Harbor Hydraulics to have it repaired and put back on the shelf for future use.

Dan Barlow said he has a load of salt coming in this week and he will place another order by the end of the week because the way it is being transported the lead time is longer than it has been in the past.

Gary Mortus made a motion to purchase two tires for the backhoe from Severe Service Treaders with pricing through the State Cooperative Purchasing Program and not to exceed $1,400. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

New Business

Rick Hartman of Pyramid Network Services said he is a Site Acquisition Specialist currently looking for a cell phone tower location in the area for a Verizon build in 2019. He discussed a few of the location and lease options. Rick Hartman said the footprint they are looking for is an area 100 by 100 feet although they could go smaller.

The Trustees said they would like some time to think about it and will likely make a decision at the next meeting.

Diane Belden said Wreaths Across America will be held at the Catawba Island Cemetery Saturday, December 16, at 11 a.m. She said some of the wreaths have already arrived. Diane Belden said local Boy Scouts will be present to help and a guest speaker is scheduled. She also said a tent will be set up and a fly over is planned. Diane Belden said the Catawba Fire Department will be open for coffee and refreshments following the event.

Reggie Langford said the Parks Board is considering placing directional signs in the Cedar Meadow Nature Preserve next year.

William Rofkar made a motion to purchase eight doors from Carter Lumber for installation at the Union Chapel as per quote number 140023459 for a total of $1,362.07. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Re-elected Trustees Matt Montowski and William Rofkar will be sworn in December 28, 2017 at the Ottawa County Municipal Court in a ceremony officiated by Clerk of Court David Boldt.

The reorganization for 2018 will take place at the end of the next regular Trustee meeting as scheduled for Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
