Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees
Special Meeting
February 26, 2019
Catawba Island Township Trustees held a special meeting on Tuesday, February 26, at
6:00 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building. The purpose of the meeting was to meet with members of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department to discuss the prospect of EMS billing.
In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw,
Kevin Wylie, John Gangway, Eric Schramm, Randy Riedmaier, Terri Davis, Gabrielle Davis, and Pam Sprowls
William Rofkar expressed the need to generate additional revenue for increasing fire department expenses.
Pam Sprowls, Business Development representative for Ohio Billing, gave an overview of how Ohio Billing operates including services they provide, potential revenue to the township, and the cost of services.
Fire Chief Kevin Wylie answered questions regarding current EMS operations.
A lengthy discussion took place regarding the operations of both Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department and Ohio Billing.
At this time more information needs to be gathered and more thought given to the prospect of EMS billing with regard to who specifically shall be billed and how the billing will be carried out. Options to consider include soft billing all patients, hard billing all patients, or soft billing residents and hard billing non-residents.
Additional meetings of the same nature will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building on Tuesday, March 12, and Tuesday, March 26. A different EMS billing company will be present at each meeting.
No decisions or motions were made and the meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
