Meeting Minutes

October 8, 2019

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman William Rofkar on Tuesday, October 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were: Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Ernest Wylie, Diane Belden, Shirley Mays, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the September 24, 2019 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $64,448.74. The total includes a payment of $35,000 to the City of Port Clinton per the new EMS agreement. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A letter from James Stewart requesting use of the Community Hall on December 20 for a family event.

Trustees agreed James Stewart could use the Community Hall and waived the rental fee.

A letter from Cheri Schraidt requesting use of the Community Hall to host the “Local Handcrafted Offerings” Christmas arts and crafts show on December 7. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit The Arc of Ottawa County.

Trustees agreed Cheri Schraidt could use the Community Hall for the arts and crafts show for the rental fee agreed upon for hosting a community fundraising event.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the September 2019 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve a Then and Now Purchase Order to the City of Port Clinton for $35,000 for the one time equipment purchase per the signed agreement. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were thirteen zoning permits issued and two variances applied for in September with a total of $1,382.68 collected in fees.



Police

Police Chief John Gangway presented a quote from Statewide Ford Lincoln for a new 2020 Ford Utility Police Interceptor.

Matt Montowski made a motion to purchase a 2020 Ford Utility Police Interceptor from Statewide Ford Lincoln for $43,173. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said the Hickory Ridge subdivision project is completed and the cemetery drainage project is completed. He said the conduit and trenching is complete for installation of the gate at the compost facility.

Dan Barlow said they are winterizing the trucks and getting ready for the fall clean up October 16 through October 20. He said they will complete brush pick up by the end of the month and then begin leaf pick up.

Dan Barlow said he received a quote from Erie Spider and Pest Control for $120 to spray for spiders twice a year at the chapel.

Trustees agreed Erie Spider and Pest Control should spray for spiders this fall at the chapel for $60 and asked Dan Barlow to present quotes for spraying all of the township buildings in 2020.

New Business

Shirley May was present and thanked Catawba Island Fire Department personnel for their service.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
