Chairman Jordan Davenport called the meeting of the Catawba Island Township Zoning Commission to order at 7:00 p.m. For the record, he identified the date as November 20, 2019.
Agenda Item 1 – Request for a Zoning Amendment
Secretary Bickley indicated that the zoning office has not received a zoning amendment application.
Agenda Item 2 – Approval of Minutes
No corrections or additions were made to the August 21, 2019 Meeting Minutes and they stand approved as emailed.
Agenda Item 3 – Unfinished Business
Secretary Bickley reviewed the proposed zoning amendments for the accessory structure requirements. Secretary Bickley also noted the following proposed addition to the “A” District Sign requirements: For subdivisions, condominiums, or other developments, a single identification sign not exceeding forty-eight (48) square feet in area including the supporting structure shall be permitted. Secretary Bickley noted that the Black Swamp Conservancy filed a zoning permit application for an identification sign for property on Muggy Road. The application was denied. The amendment would allow the sign application to be approved.
Chairman Davenport noted that in June, the Commission agreed to revisit the sign regulations within six (6) months. Chairman Davenport commented that he prefers monument signs and would consider prohibiting pole signs. Discussion continued. The Board also discussed limiting the sign’s height to fifteen feet (15’). Secretary Bickley will review the files to determine the height of various pole signs.
