Catawba Island Township Board of Zoning Appeals

January 13, 2010


The regular meeting of the Catawba Island Township Board of Zoning Appeals was called to order by Chairman Dale VanLerberghe at 7:30 in the conference room. Present were Jack DeVore, Dale VanLerberghe, Tom Anslow, Bryan Baugh, Sandra Erwin, Pat Cerny and Matt Montowski. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Dale VanLerberghe noted there were no cases to hear before the Board and that they would be electing a Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary for the year 2010.

Bryan Baugh nominated Dale VanLerberghe for Chairman and Jack DeVore seconded the motion. Tom Anslow made a motion to close the nominations and Sandra Erwin seconded the motion. All voted in favor to close the nominations for Chairman, Dale VanLerberghe abstained. All voted in favor to elect Dale VanLerberghe as Chairman, Dale VanLerberghe abstained.

Jack DeVore nominated Bryan Baugh for Vice Chairman and Sandra Erwin seconded the motion. Tom Anslow made a motion to close the nominations and Sandra Erwin seconded the motion. All voted in favor to close the nominations for Vice Chairman, Bryan Baugh abstained. All voted in favor to elect Bryan Baugh as Vice Chairman, Bryan Baugh abstained.

Bryan Baugh nominated Pat Cerny for Secretary and Jack DeVore seconded the motion. Sandra Erwin made a motion to close the nominations and Jack DeVore seconded the motion. All voted in favor to close the nominations for Secretary, Pat Cerny abstained. All voted in favor to elect Pat Cerny as Secretary, Pat Cerny abstained.

It was determined Dale VanLerberghe and Pat Cerny would decide if there would be a meeting each month. Board members were instructed if they have not received case information by the Friday preceding the monthly meeting they should contact Pat Cerny to find out if the meeting has been cancelled.

Matt Montowski talked about the need for a few new members and alternates for the Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. He said Pat Cerny put an article in the newspaper requesting a response from Catawba Island residents who might be interested in joining one of our boards. Following a brief discussion about the desirable qualifications of a board member, Matt Montowski informed the Board of Zoning Appeals a questionnaire would be mailed to those residents who showed interest.

The next meeting will be February 10, 2010.

Bryan Baugh made a motion to adjourn seconded by Jack DeVore. The motion was carried unanimously.
