Special Meeting
February 21, 2023
A special meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, February 21, at 12:30 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building.
In attendance were: Diane Belden, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw,
Jack Madison, Brad Schwan, Joy Noren, William O’Donnell, and Randy Riedmaier
Matt Montowski said the Catawba Island Parks Board has made a recommendation to the Trustees to submit an application for the 2023 Parks and Trails Improvement Grant Program offered by the Park District of Ottawa County to purchase storybook pedestals for installation along the trail at the Catawba Point Preserve. A storybook trail is primarily for children and would promote early literacy skills, encourage physical activity, and showcase our local Catawba Point Preserve. The grant amount requested is $6,596.18 for 22 storybook pedestals and the township will share in the cost by providing the labor to install with an estimated cost of $2,000.
Jack Madison said the Parks Board originally considered a storybook trail in the Cedar Meadow Preserve but ultimately decided a storybook trail would be a good opportunity to promote use of the Catawba Point Preserve.
Trustee Matt Montowski moved the adoption of a Resolution Agreeing to Cooperate for the Purpose of Providing Outdoor Recreation Improvements
WHEREAS, the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees desires to utilize funding available through the 2023 Park District of Ottawa County Parks and Trails Improvement Grant Program
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees
1. Agrees to cooperate for the purposes of increasing and improving outdoor recreation opportunities under the terms and conditions of the “2023 Parks and Trails Improvement Grant Program” administered by the Park District of Ottawa County Board of Park Commissioners.
2. Catawba Island Township, Ottawa County is hereby authorized to apply to the Park District of Ottawa County Board of Park Commissioners for funding assistance from the “2023 Parks and Trails Improvement Grant Program”.
3. This resolution was presented and acted upon at the open and public meeting of the
Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees held on February 21, 2023 in accordance with the Ohio Open Meeting Laws.
Trustee Diane Belden seconded the motion and upon the roll being called, the vote resulted as follows: William Rofkar, aye; Matt Montowski, aye; and Diane Belden, aye. Motion carried.
Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 12:50 p.m.
