ZONING COMMISSION MINUTES

Members of the Commission in attendance were Vice-Chairperson Paul Shaw, Matt Gottron, Dr. Gregory Hart, and Alternates Bill Barnes and David Wonnell. Also in attendance were Matt Montowski, Trustee, and Todd Bickley, Zoning Inspector and Commission Secretary.
Vice-Chairperson Shaw called the meeting of the Catawba Island Township Zoning Commission to order at 7:00 p.m. For the record, he identified the date as April 24, 2024.
Vice-Chairperson Shaw reviewed the agenda.

Agenda Item 1 – Applications
Vice-Chairperson Shaw indicated that the Zoning Commission had initiated text amendments at the March meeting. Mr. Bickley handed out and reviewed the proposed text amendments. The text amendments were submitted to the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission for review and Mr. Bickley read the letter from Director Mark Messa, which recommended approval of the text amendments.
Laura Mahlich appreciated that the township has initiated the text changes and commented that it represents a move forward as a nice community. She noted that Harbor Park Marina will consider adding regulations concerning footer requirements.
Vice-Chairperson Shaw questioned the remaining time line. Mr. Bickley indicated that once the Zoning Commission takes action tonight, the trustees will schedule a public hearing for May 14th, and if acted upon, the amendments would be effective June 14th.
Ms. Mahlich commented that Catawba Island is one of the best areas in Ohio and the proposed text amendments will enhance Catawba Island.
With no additional comments or questions, Dr. Gregory Hart made a motion to recommend approval of the text amendments to the Township Trustees. The motion was seconded by David Wonnell. All members voted in favor of the motion. Vice-Chairperson Shaw did not vote.
Vice-Chairperson Shaw noted that the Catawba Island Trustees will hold its public hearing at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Agenda Item 2 – Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes
With no additions or comments, Vice Chairperson Shaw indicated that March 27, 2024 minutes stand approved as emailed.
Agenda Item 3 – Unfinished Business
Mr. Bickley noted that Island Pine PUD was tabled for ninety (90) days or until May 22, 2024. Mr. Bickley will contact the project engineer to determine the project status.
Carol Kubit questioned the home on Anchor Lane. Mr. Bickley commented that the interior improvements need to be completed and that the township has limited authority with completing interior work.
