CATAWBA ISLAND TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES
MEETING MINUTES – JUNE 22, 2010

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Board of Trustees was called to order by vice-chairman Matt Montowski on June 22, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance: William Rofkar, Matt Montowski, Pat Cerny, Jeff Nehls, Jack DeVore, Reggie Langford and John Gangway. Gary Mortus was excused.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all accompanied by a moment of silence.

Pat Cerny read the minutes of the previous meeting which were approved by the Board of Trustees as read.

William Rofkar made a motion to accept and pay the bills in the amount of $87,269.10 seconded by Matt Montowski. William Rofkar, aye; Matt Montowski, aye. The report is accepted and attached to the minutes.

Correspondence received:
Ottawa County Township Association Quarterly Meeting Notice for July 29, 2010 at the Schedel Arboretum & Gardens.

Robert H. Hille, Treasurer, notifying the taxing authority of the township intitled to share in the proceeds of an estate.

Ottawa County Board of Elections memo regarding the filing deadline for any issues for the 2010 General Election ballot for August 4, 2010.

Kevin L. Boyce, Ohio Treasurer of State sharing some changes made at the Treasury that will positively impact your STAR Ohio account.

John E. Starcher, Starcher Enterprises, LLC. bringing attention to the recently passed health care reform bill and urging our elected officials to contact other elected officials to repeal this law.

David Brunkhorst, County Engineer, giving notice of 2010 striping program.

Correspondence from Eric Freimark, 5513 E. Twin Beach Road
regarding the fish cleaning at the Holiday Village. Matt Montowski contacted Eric Freimark and stated a stop and decist order was not issued, only a zoning violation and the township has been watching the area.

Jeff Nehls, a representative from ODNR presented the plans for a new office space building and conference room to be built to replace the existing office at the Catawba Island State Park. It should not impact the neighborhood only provide a nicety. The State Park will also have an office there. It will be called the Catawba Island Office. Construction will begin in the spring and be completed at the end of next year.

John Gangway stated he was approached by a resident of the Come Sail Away condominiums for the fire chief to allow them to use natural gas grills on the decks of the condos. There was a modification by the State Fire Marshall that would allow that up until July 1st, 2010. After inspecting the property, John Gangway decided it would be a bad idea to allow gas grills on the decks. A letter will be composed to the representative from Come Sail Away with the reasons for denial. The Trustees appreciate the fire chief’s researching this.

Matt Montowski asked John Gangway if they have found any interviewing equipment and nothing has been decided on at this time.
John Gangway also stated the Castalia Police Department is interested in our old VHS video car cameras. William Rofkar stated to find out what they are willing to offer.

DeeDee Hepp called and requested the use of the soccer field at Heigel Park on a Saturday or Sunday six times between Labor Day Weekend and the third weekend in October. The other group that uses the field will be contacted and the scheduling will have to be worked out between them.

William Rofkar made a motion to participate in the 2010 Ottawa County Engineer’s Road Striping program and stripe the same roads as in the past seconded by Matt Montowski. William Rofkar, aye; Matt Montowski, aye. Motion carries.

Matt Montowski stated he attended a Park’s Board Meeting on June 14 and they are looking into a few projects such as putting up a sign on the West Road stating where their park is and where the entrance is. The Board is also working on a trail map and a management plan for the property.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn seconded by Matt Montowski. All voted aye.
