CATAWBA ISLAND TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES
MEETING MINUTES AUGUST 24, 2010


The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by chairman Gary Mortus at 7:30 p.m. on August 24, 2010 in the conference room. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

In attendance: Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, excused, Pat Cerny, Jack DeVore, John Gangway and Dan Barlow.

Pat Cerny read the minutes of the previous meeting. Matt Montowski made a motion to accept the minutes as read seconded by Gary Mortus. All voted aye.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $26,257.59 seconded by Gary Mortus. Matt Montowski, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.

Correspondence included Donald Gresbach, President of the Ballard Homeowners Association on East Charles Lane complaining of the condition of a property on East Charles Lane. Pat Cerny stated she looked at the property and the noxious weeds appeared to be cut down.

Gary Woodley, Nantucket Drive, complaining of noxious weeds on a parcel north of Catawba Shores North. A letter will be written to the owners.

An invitation to The Northwest Ohio Urban Forestry Seminar being held on October 21, 2010 at the Lodge at Strawberry Acres Park. This will be forwarded to the Park Board.

Ottawa County No Wrong Door Training at the Riverview Healthcare Campus on October 14, 2010 in connection with the United Way 2-1-1.

Robert J. Hille, Ottawa County Treasurer notifying the taxing authority of the township of their share in the proceeds of two estates.

Ohio Department of Commerce providing a Cable TV Consumer Hotline for consumer complaints about their cable tv. 1-800-686-7826.

The Ottawa County Budget Commission met and approved the distribution of the Local Government monies for the year 2011. The estimate from the Ohio Department of Taxation for Ottawa County’s total share of the Local Government funds for Catawba Island Township will be $28,335.03.

Hylant Group Commercial Package Policy book with coverage effective June 15, 2010.

Quotation from Barnes Nursery for grinding yard waste material which included a double grind per directions for $8,700.00.

David Price Metal Services quotation on grinding the yard waste for $12,785.00.

JVS Garage Door Company for the old fire station steel entrance doors, frames, and hardware $2935.00. Second option is to replace the door slabs only for $2853.00.

The Kreimes Company for an asphalt repair job to a trench for $1,380.00.

Ohio Asphalt proposal for the patching to the trench for $1438.00.

State Wide Ford with prices on police vehicles.

Gary Mortus stated he received a call from Drew’s Custom Carts indicating Drew has a golf cart that is street legal. He will come to a Trustee meeting in September to make a presentation. Gary Mortus stated unless the state tells us we can do this, we cannot have golf carts on the streets.

John Gangway stated the Police Department has obtained some free software from the Attorney General and they can upload the existing data into their program. All the officers have been trained on the program.

The Trustees thanked Dan Barlow for completing his two hour safety training required by the BWC.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the bid from Barnes Nursery for $8,700.00 for grinding material including mobilization of equipment for a double grind seconded by Matt Montowski. All voted aye.

Dan Barlow discussed the bids on the old fire station doors from JVS Garage Door. Dan Barlow will talk with Masonry Construction and request a quote.

There was discussion on replacing the pavilion roof with steel roofing but it is costly for a shelter house. The Trustees are considering shingles.

Matt Montowski stated residents in Lake in the Woods thanks the Maintenance staff for the great job picking up debris and leaving the area immaculate.

Gary Mortus stated there is a minor up-charge for the roof on the Administration Building of $600.00 because of the time frame we originally received the bid and the time of acceptance due to the shingle prices.

Dan Barlow stated the trench repair project could be accomplished by the Maintenance staff. He will confirm this at the next meeting.

Port Clinton came in on August 24th and moved 90% of the compost material. Dan gave them a tank of fuel for their equipment and mulch.

The Maintenance Department also removed an oak tree at the State Park on the road right of way.

Gary Mortus made a motion that we refund Ms. Peggy Boselo $50.00 for the partial payment on a grave site, with a letter attached, seconded by Matt Montowski. All voted aye.
