Minutes: December 24th, 2007

The regular meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by chairman Gary Mortus at 11:00 a.m. on December 24, 2007 in the conference room. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present were Gary Mortus, Robert Schroeder, William Rofkar, Pat Cerny, Jack DeVore, John Smothers and Dan Barlow.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved with a correction in regard to the quote given by William Rofkar in regard to grinding equipment. $165,000 to $200,000 instead of $250,000. Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve the corrected minutes seconded by William Rofkar. Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye. William Rofkar made a motion to pay the bills in the amount of
$36,193.42 including the payroll with the exception of the Ohio Edison invoice seconded by Robert Schroeder. William Rofkar, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye; Gary Mortus, aye. Robert Schroeder made a motion to pay the Ohio Edison invoice seconded by William Rofkar. Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, abstain.

Correspondence included the 2007 November report from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

John Smothers stated the Park Board will do a news release.

Dan Barlow stated the leaf vac is repaired. After the first of the year, weather providing, the maintenance crew will do a sweep of the island for brush. The new 221 fire truck is in service and Rocky Ridge will be contacted about the old 221 truck.

William Rofkar stated a maintenance employee will be retiring at the end of January, 2008. Gary Mortus stated he would like to advertise the position and also check with the Job Store. William Rofkar stated he knows of a qualified applicant that has plowed for the township and has applied for the position.

Robert Schroeder stated the new police cruiser has arrived.

Pat Cerny stated in regard to the Ohio Edison bill, at the beginning of the year the trustees can make a motion to pay the Ohio Edison bill and Gary Mortus would leave the room as the motion is made. In regard to officer Todd Parkinson’s pay for a trial he had to attend that occurred when he worked for Danbury Township needs a motion by the Trustees that they will not pay his time spent on the trial. Robert Schroeder made a motion not to pay Todd Parkinson for the time spent on the Danbury Township trial being the incident occurred when Todd Parkinson was employed by Danbury Township
seconded by William Rofkar. Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.

Robert Schroeder made a motion to enter into a contract with McRill Drilling for the repair of Carolina Street seconded by William Rofkar in the amount of $19,944.00.
