Meeting Minutes for May 21, 2025

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 6:01 P.M.

People Present:

Brad Schwan, David Howell, Jack Madison, Brian Washburn, Vicki Wheatley

Guests: Matt Montowski, William Baker

Reading/Approval of Minutes 

The minutes from April 16, 2025 were read and approved.

Items Discussed:

Old Business:

Speaker Series – Brian Washburn will provide his availability to Vicki Wheatley to arrange a date for the next presentation to be held in August.

Park District of Ottawa County Grant – Matt Montowski gave an overview of what has taken place since the inception of the Catawba Island Township’s grant proposal. Matt Montowski also shared that Kevin Johnson, maintenance supervisor for Catawba Island Township, placed parking blocks near the Cedar Meadow entrance to provide a parking area. Matt will talk with the other Catawba Island Township Trustees to see if they should add white lines to distinguish individual parking spaces.

Kiosk – Brad Schwan placed about 18 brochures in the box on the kiosk, he replenished them as many were taken by visitors. The design team is nearly ready for the kiosk information to approved. After that it will go to Mr. Davenport for print.

Cedar Meadow – Brad Schwan reported that he went through Cedar Meadow and fixed ambiguous signs.

We will have our Parks Board walk through during our June Parks Board Meeting, June 18, due to the weather not cooperating during our May meeting.

Jack Madison gave an overview of the two properties Park District of Ottawa County owns, Catawba Island Trail Head and Davenport Memorial Park.

Jack Madison made a motion to accept the Park District of Ottawa County Grant to place a trail in Heigel Park.  There was no second to this motion.

Decisions Made:

Relocate Cedar Meadow Signs – Brad Schwan made a motion to recommend to the Catawba Island Trustees to have Cedar Meadow signage installed based on the most appropriate location. Vicki Wheatley seconded, motion approved unanimously.

Jack Madison made a motion to have a hanger at the bottom of the NW Catawba Rd. Cedar Meadow sign indicating the entrance is located behind the fire department.  Vicki Wheatley seconded, motion approved unanimously.Park District of Ottawa County Grant – Vicki Wheatley made a motion to recommend to the Catawba Island Trustees to return the funding, Brian Washburn seconded. The motion was approved with 4 in favor and 1 opposed.

 Adjournment:

Brian Washburn made a motion to adjourn at 6:50 P.M., Vicki Wheatley seconded, the motion was approved unanimously.
