Meeting Minutes
October 26, 2021
The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Diane Belden on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building.
In attendance were: Diane Belden, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, John Gangway,
Kevin Johnson, Ernie Wylie, Dan Barlow, Lawrene Montowski, Paul Shaw, Jack Madison, and
Randy Riedmaier.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.
Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the October 12, 2021 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $61,207.81. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Correspondence
A letter from Amanda Bowens requesting use of the Community Hall for the local Braves Football and Cheerleading awards banquet on Monday, December 5.
Trustees agreed the Braves Football and Cheerleading program can hold an awards banquet at the Community Hall as requested and waived the rental fee.
A letter from Cheryl Schraidt requesting use of the Community Hall on Sunday, December 4, to host a Christmas Arts and Crafts Show. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Bistro 163.
Trustees agreed the locally handcrafted Christmas Arts and Crafts Show can be held at the Community Hall for the reduced rental fee of $60 as a portion of the proceeds will benefit Bistro 163.
A letter from the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office regarding postponement of paving and widening West Catawba this fall. The new anticipated completion date is May 15, 2022 with no additional cost.
Notification from the Joint Solid Waste Management District regarding tire recycling available for township maintenance departments.
Maintenance
Maintenance Supervisor Kevin Johnson said they are getting ready to begin leaf pickup and prepare for winter road maintenance. Kevin Johnson said he hopes they do not have any equipment breakdowns because parts are hard to get now.
William Rofkar said they are concerned about being able to keep equipment operating this winter with the parts shortages.
Fire
Diane Belden said delivery of the new fire truck is delayed and it will not likely arrive until 2022.
Diane Belden reported Port Clinton EMS responded to 64 calls in July, 63 in August, and 47 in September for a total of 164 Catawba Island calls responded to during the third quarter. She said the average response time was 10 minutes and 29 seconds.
Diane Belden said the fire department plans to take a couple fire trucks out into local neighborhoods Sunday evening during Trick or Treat.
Zoning
Montowski said Jason Lewis of the US Fish and Wildlife Service is applying for a sign permit for the Nehls Memorial Nature Preserve and asked if the Trustees would consider waiving the $30 permit fee for the public nature preserve.
Trustees agreed to waive the $30 permit fee for the Nehls Memorial Nature Preserve sign.
New Business
Trustees discussed the complaint received concerning the property located at 4405 E. Konker Road. Trustees agreed that a zoning violation regarding the unlicensed vehicle will be addressed but there is no trash in the yard and the lawn has been mowed by neighbors so there is no additional action the Trustees can take at this time.
William Rofkar said a letter was received from Ted Day on October 26 notifying the township he is resigning his full time position effective immediately due to medical reasons.
Matt Montowski made a motion to accept Ted Day’s resignation. Diane Belden seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.
William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
