Meeting Minutes for January 17, 2024
Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 6:02 P.M.

Reading/Approval of Minutes:
The December 20, 2023 minutes were read and approved.

Old Business:
Next steps for the kiosk – Brad stopped at Jerry Davenport’s to get more information on next steps and what Jerry will need from the Parks Board. However, Jerry was unavailable. Brad brought a prototype of a brochure he created to include in the kiosk. Copies were provided for the board members and guests and suggestions were taken on additions and deletions. The possibility of a challenge for people who find items listed in the brochure and if they could obtain some type of trinket was discussed.
Community Gardens – MD Johns, a member of the Catawba Island Garden Club attended the meeting to share her desire to lead a community garden project. She has formed a committee to gather information. She is meeting with Port Clinton community garden to look at their layout and try to obtains more information. Board members and guests identified items related to the gardens. MD will keep the Park Board Members up to date with her findings. The plan will then need to be approved by the CIT Trustees.
New Business:
Jack Madison shared that he was given a list of names form the last time the Township Trustees conducted a search for a new Parks Board Member. He suggested calling the people who once applied to see if they were still interested. Brad Schwan shared that the responsibility is that of the Township Trustees and that the Park Board Members are available to help if Trustees ask.
Jack Madison shared that The Black Swamp Conservancy donated a parcel of land to the Park District of Ottawa County. This will be the first piece of property that the Park District of Ottawa County owns. It will be named West Harbor Preserve. Jack shared that The Park District of Ottawa County will manage the property and it will eventually include a kayak launch, walking trail, and parking area.
Dorthy Baker, a guest in attendance at the meeting, mentioned the recycle fish located at West Harbor Landing and efforts maintaining it.
