Catawba Island Township Park Board
Meeting Minutes for March 20, 2024
Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M.

Reading/Approval of Minutes:
The minutes from the February 21, 2024 were read. Jack Madison made the motion to approve and Vicki Wheatley seconded. The minutes were approved.

Old Business:
A copy of the letter sent to Reggie Langford thanking him for his service as a Parks Board member was read.
Brad Schwan stated the pickleball courts are about 98% completed. Surfacing and landscaping complete, grass is needed, and a few small paint specks removed. Missing are two posts and two nets that the contractor did not provide. Discussion with the Township Trustees has occurred, suggesting that an agreement between the contractor and township be entered into. The terms being to hold back the remaining $4,000.00 and terminate the contract forgoing the two posts (and placement of) and two nets. Brad Schwan drafted a potential agreement.
John Davenport reached out to Trustee Montowski asking to reserve the Pickleball Courts for a Fundraiser for the Rotary Club to be held June 22-29, 2024. The public is welcome and invited to participate.
Brad reported that concerns were brought forward regarding the condition of the Tennis Courts and Basketball Courts.
Kiosk – Brad shared a prototype of the brochure he created to be added to the kiosk. Consensus that the draft looked good and to ask the Trustees for funds to print the brochure and for a weatherproof box be purchased to attach to the kiosk to include the brochures for the public to enjoy.
Jack Madison to check with Jerry Davenport on specifically what type of copy/print he needs to complete the kiosk panels.
Community Gardens – The Parks Board did not want to move forward with discussions until we have representation from the Garden Club. Brad shared some costs on box/beds made from wood and metal. Approximate cost for a 4×4 bed – 170.00, 2×12 – 110.00 a bed, and metal – 74.00 a bed. Dave Howell went and viewed the Port Clinton Community Garden and took pictures. Dave Howell asked if the Parks Board has a budget, shared is the procedure for funds: Parks Board Member(s) ask and the Trustees for funding and the Trustees will make the decision to approve or not at a Township Trustee Meeting.
Speaker series – Brad Schwan stated the one in February was well attended, 45 people were in attendance. Vicki Wheatley is planning for an upcoming event.
New Business:
A request from a Catawba Resident to come up with suggestions for more practice soccer fields for the Port Clinton Recreation Department. Matt Montowski stated he will talk to the resident who made the request.
Bill Baker would like a solution to the portion of the trail in Cedar Meadow that is under water. He said he spoke to three engineers who all had differing opinions. It was shared that an engineer who was recommended by Black Swamp came to Cedar Meadow approximately a year ago and gave a quote. Bill also shared he was opposed to a Storybook Trail in the preserves.
Decisions Made:
Brad Schwan to attend the next Township Trustee meeting to discuss the Pickleball court, condition of the tennis/basketball courts, and the Cedar Meadow brochures and weather proof box for the kiosk.
